Hot Toddy

If you start to feel a bit under the weather, this recipe is great with or without alcohol. I prefer a strong brew, so I boil all of the herbs and spices simultaneously. I add honey and the alcohol last. Sometimes if I don’t have all of the spices, I can get by with ginger, honey, and lemon. The taste with only those three ingredients is similar to a cough drop. The results are equal in comparison. A Toddy might have a leg up on a cough drop, since a Toddy consists of liquid and made with natural ingredients. Let me know what you think.


1 large piece of fresh ginger peeled or ginger tea bag

8 ounces of filtered or spring water

1 ½ ounces of tequila

3 whole cloves

1 cinnamon stick

1 large slice of lemon

1 pinch of nutmeg optional


For a strong brew bring to boil water with the fresh ginger, cloves, and cinnamon immersed. 

Remove from heat and add honey, tequila or alcohol of choice, and lemon.

Top off with a pinch of nutmeg upon serving if desired.

If you prefer a milder concoction bring to boil water, then remove from heat and steep all ingredients for 15 minutes.
